What to do in Siquijor

Siquijor, the mystical island that locals call “Isla del Fuego” (Island of Fire), casts an irresistible spell on all who visit. This enchanted paradise blends nature with centuries of folklore and healing traditions. From the moment you first glimpse its tiffany blue waters from the ferry, you’ll understand why this island has captivated travellers.

My first visit to Siquijor left me utterly spellbound. This tiny island packs a boatload of incredible activities and experiences.

Unmissable Siquijor experiences:

  • Cambugahay Falls – A rope swing into a multi-tiered turquoise waterfall surrounded by lush jungle (go early to beat the crowds!)
  • Paliton Beach – A stretch of powdery white sand with incredible views during sunset
  • Salagdoong Beach – An epic cliff-jumping spot into crystal-clear azure waters
  • Lugnason Falls – A secluded waterfall surrounded by vegetation.
  • Cantabon Cave – A stunning limestone cave with natural pools

The best time to go to Siquijor and Dumaguete

While these destinations can be visited all year round, it is best to avoid the rainy season (June through November) when typhoons can sweep through without warning, potentially cancelling ferries and ruining your trip.

The best time to visit is the dry season, between December and May.

How to get from Dumaguete to Siquijor

The OceanJet ferry from Dumaguete to Siquijor departs from Dumaguete Port, which is located near Rizal Boulevard in the city centre. The terminal is within walking distance from popular spots like Silliman University and the Dumaguete Public Market.

The ferry takes just 45 minutes, offering incredible coastal sights. Buy your ferry ticket online to reduce stress and avoid queues!

Bohol Dumaguete Siquijor itinerary

If you’ve caught the travel bug and are not ready to return home yet, why not add Bohol to your Dumaguete Siquijor itinerary?

Located just a 1.5-hour ferry from Siquijor, Bohol is an excellent addition to your trip.

Bohol delivers experiences you can’t find anywhere else in the Philippines. Cruise down the emerald Loboc River while local musicians perform from floating restaurants. Wake up to stunning sunrises on Panglao’s world-class beaches before dancing the night away at beachfront bars. Dive into the underwater paradise surrounding Balicasag Island, where turtles glide through healthy coral gardens. And of course, stand in awe of the otherworldly Chocolate Hills and adorable tarsiers.

Recommended itinerary:

  • 1 night Dumaguete
  • 2 nights Siquijor
  • 2 nights Bohol

Oslob Dumaguete Siquijor itinerary

If you are starting your trip to Cebu, why not add Oslob to your itinerary? Just 3 hours from Cebu City, Oslob is en route to the ferry terminal to Dumaguete.

While Oslob is famous for its whale-shark interactions (which we recommend skipping for ethical wildlife tourism reasons), the area offers plenty of responsible alternatives. Don’t miss Tumalog Falls – a breathtaking cascade of turquoise water flowing over moss-covered rocks that rivals Siquijor’s famous falls. The dramatic coastline provides spectacular views, particularly at sunset when the sky erupts in colours over Cebu Strait.
