ToggleThe Best Loboc River Activities
Kayak & SUP
Kayaking and paddleboarding are excellent options for exploring the river, costing 500-800php/ hour. The stillness of the water, coupled with the sounds of nature, makes this an incredibly peaceful yet engaging experience. Paddle along the gentle currents and take in the sights of the surrounding forest and wildlife, including birds and dragonflies.
Heading upstream, you can reach Busay Falls, a powerful waterfall in the river worth visiting during your kayak! It is best to kayak early or late afternoon, avoiding the hours of 11 am-4 pm due to the river cruises.
River Cruise (Floating Restaraunts)
One of the most popular Loboc River activities is the lunch cruise. The boat ride takes you through Loboc’s emerald waters, surrounded by lush tropical jungle, offering a perfect blend of nature and entertainment.
What makes the experience even more unique is the floating restaurants. These boats are equipped with a delicious buffet of local delicacies, including grilled seafood, native chicken, and fresh fruits. Local musicians often serenade you with traditional Filipino tunes, enhancing the atmosphere.
This activity is a little overrated and pricey for many backpackers. After speaking to many locals, they said it was too disruptive to the peaceful environment. This experience is best for those less active and on a higher budget.
Trekking
If you love hiking, Loboc offers beautiful trails where you can explore the surrounding wilderness. The peaceful sound of the flowing water and the diverse flora and fauna make it an ideal location for a relaxing walk in nature. You can often spot local wildlife, reach panoramic viewpoints and immerse in the non-touristy side of Bohol.
To find the best trails, ask your accommodation, as there are many to choose from.
Nature Watching & Photography
Loboc is home to a bounty of nature. Sit peacefully on the riverbank and birdwatch, keeping an eye out for kingfishers. Scower the banks and arching palms for wild iguanas. Watch the array of bright butterflies and dragonflies swoop across the vegetation.
Lunch With A View
If the river cruise sounds too busy for you, and you crave lunch by the river without the overwhelming crowds or music, check out one of the local restaurants along the river.
Our favourite? Nuts Huts. This restaurant overlooks the river with the bonus of comfy seats, hammocks and even table tennis. They have the perfect balance of Filipino food and international cuisine at an affordable price. Plus, they have the FRIENDLIEST staff, epic recommendations and the option to rent a kayak. Just make sure to arrive by river and not the access road (trust us on this one).
Firefly Watching Tour
One of the most underrated Loboc River activities is the evening firefly-watching tour. As your boat cruises downstream in the darkness, you’ll encounter a magical natural phenomenon: hundreds of fireflies gathering in specific trees, particularly almonds. These luminous insects create a mesmerising display, dancing and glowing in response to clapping, their lights twinkling like natural Christmas decorations. It’s a truly enchanting experience that nature enthusiasts shouldn’t miss.
Note: during a full moon, there are naturally fewer visible fireflies. I would have loved to put a photo here, but capturing fireflies is extremely difficult unless you have a fancy camera!
Loboc Zipline
For thrill-seekers, a zip line ride over the Loboc River offers an adrenaline-packed experience with breathtaking views. The zip line takes you soaring above the river and surrounding jungle, giving you a bird’s-eye view of the landscape. The experience is thrilling and scenic, making it a memorable way to take in the beauty of the river and its environment.

Frequently Asked Questions
What is Loboc known for?
Loboc is a rural part of Bohol, famous for the Loboc River, elaborate river cruises, nature escapes and water sports. Wheter visiting for an adventure activity or a blissful lunch with beautiful views, you are guaranteed to be impressed.
Is Loboc River Clean?
Loboc River is supposedly one of the cleanest rivers in the Philippines. While it may appear murky and green, that’s from the luscious vegetation and boats which turn up the mud from the river bed.
Can You Swim In Loboc River?
Swimming is one of the best Loboc River activities. You often see kids playing in the water, leaping from the river bank or flipping off a rope swing! Due to the murkiness of the water, try and keep your head above the water, particularly if you have a weak stomach (like me). It is best to avoid swimming in Loboc between 11 am-4 pm due to the busy river cruises.
How Many Days Are Enough For Bohol?
You need at least 3 days to see the main attractions (Balicasag Island, Loboc River, Tarsiers…), but you could easily spend a whole week exploring the island and not run out of things to do! For island recommendations and help planning a trip, check out our 3-day Bohol itinerary.
Where To Stay In Loboc?
If you have room in your itinerary, spend a night or two in Loboc. Why? It is a beautiful part of Bohol, a haven for nature lovers and adventure seekers! While there may be no party life here (a positive in my eyes), the array of Loboc River activities and proximity to Bohol’s famous attractions make it the ideal location to base yourself.
